Manage Subscription
All subscription management happens through the FileSafety dashboard and the Stripe billing portal. This page covers upgrading, downgrading, cancellation, and billing management.
Upgrading your plan

Section titled “From the dashboard”- Sign in at app.filesafety.dev/dashboard
- Click Upgrade in the sidebar (or navigate to the upgrade page)
- Select your desired plan (Starter, Growth, or Pro)
- Choose monthly or annual billing
- Complete payment through Stripe’s secure checkout
What happens when you upgrade
Section titled “What happens when you upgrade”- Your new quota takes effect immediately
- Scans already used in the current period carry over — they are not reset
- You are charged a prorated amount for the remainder of the current billing period
- Future invoices reflect the new plan price
Example
Section titled “Example”You are on Starter ($19/mo, 1,000 scans) and upgrade to Growth ($49/mo, 4,000 scans) halfway through your billing period:
- You pay ~$15 prorated for the remaining half-month of Growth
- Your quota immediately increases to 4,000
- Your next full invoice will be $49
Downgrading your plan
Section titled “Downgrading your plan”Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period, not immediately. This ensures you keep access to the higher quota you have already paid for.
How to downgrade
Section titled “How to downgrade”- Go to the dashboard
- Navigate to Settings
- Click Manage Billing to open the Stripe billing portal
- Select the lower plan
What happens when you downgrade
Section titled “What happens when you downgrade”- Your current plan and quota remain active until the period ends
- On the next billing date, the new (lower) plan activates
- Your quota resets to the lower plan’s limit
- If your usage in the next period exceeds the new quota, standard overage rules apply
Example
Section titled “Example”You are on Pro ($99/mo, 10,000 scans) and downgrade to Starter ($19/mo, 1,000 scans) on March 15. Your billing date is the 1st.
- March 15 - March 31: Pro remains active with 10,000 scan quota
- April 1: Starter activates with 1,000 scan quota and $19 billing
Canceling your subscription
Section titled “Canceling your subscription”How to cancel
Section titled “How to cancel”- Go to the dashboard
- Navigate to Settings
- Click Manage Billing to open the Stripe billing portal
- Click Cancel plan
What happens when you cancel
Section titled “What happens when you cancel”- Your paid plan remains active until the end of the current billing period
- After the period ends, your account reverts to the free plan (10 scans/mo)
- You retain access to the dashboard and can view past scan results
- Your API key continues to work, subject to free plan limits
- No further charges are made
Cancellation is not immediate. You keep your paid access through the end of what you have already paid for.
Stripe billing portal
Section titled “Stripe billing portal”The Stripe billing portal gives you direct control over:
- Payment method — Update your credit card or payment method
- Invoices — View and download past invoices
- Plan changes — Upgrade or downgrade your subscription
- Cancellation — Cancel your subscription
- Billing information — Update your billing address and tax details
Accessing the portal
Section titled “Accessing the portal”- Go to the dashboard
- Navigate to Settings
- Click Manage Billing
This opens Stripe’s hosted billing portal in a new tab. All payment processing is handled directly by Stripe — FileSafety never stores your credit card details.
Billing frequency
Section titled “Billing frequency”You can choose between monthly and annual billing when subscribing or upgrading:

To switch between monthly and annual billing, use the Stripe billing portal.
Payment methods
Section titled “Payment methods”FileSafety accepts all payment methods supported by Stripe, including:
- Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express)
- Some regional payment methods depending on your location
Payment method management is handled through the Stripe billing portal.
Invoices and receipts
Section titled “Invoices and receipts”Stripe automatically generates invoices for every payment. You can access them through:
- The Stripe billing portal (Settings → Manage Billing)
- Email — Stripe sends receipt emails to your account email address
Failed payments
Section titled “Failed payments”If a payment fails (expired card, insufficient funds, etc.):
- Stripe retries the payment automatically over several days
- You receive email notifications about the failed payment
- Your plan remains active during the retry period
- If all retries fail, your subscription may be suspended
Update your payment method in the Stripe billing portal to resolve payment issues.
